ABOUT MARLI & HER APPROACH
-
My approach is rooted in documentary storytelling with an artful, observational eye. I’m drawn to real moments as they unfold: the quiet in-betweens, the unspoken connections, the atmosphere of a day rather than a staged version of it.
Visually, the work leans toward a natural, timeless aesthetic which is honest in tone, with a focus on light, composition, and feeling over perfection. I’m not there to direct or orchestrate your day, but to notice it as it truly happens and translate it into a collection of tangible memories that feels both intimate and cinematic.
-
Yes. Photography has been my full-time focus since 2013 and I still get genuinely excited at every celebration I’m invited into. There’s a pinch-me feeling that hasn’t really gone away. I feel incredibly lucky that this is what I get to do for a living. I’m completely obsessed with the process of photography.

I intentionally take on a limited number of weddings each year to ensure every couple receives my full attention and care. This allows me to work with complete intention, preserve creative energy, and deliver an experience that is considered and deeply personal.
CAPTURING YOUR WEDDING DAY
-
Beyond reputation and a strong portfolio, I think the most important starting point is understanding the kind of wedding day you actually want to have.
Do you imagine something calm and relaxed, where the day flows gently, or a celebration with a more structured timeline and lots of formal moments? From there, it becomes about the images themselves and what you naturally feel drawn to. Are you more connected to photographs that are directed and posed, or to moments that feel unplanned, honest, and alive as they unfold? If you find yourself consistently drawn to images that feel like memories rather than setups then you’re likely leaning towards a more documentary approach to photography. If that is the case, I’d love to hear more about your plans.
-
Every wedding is unique, and the coverage you need really depends on the flow of your day and how you want it to be experienced and remembered. I work in a considered, unhurried way so that nothing feels rushed or forced, and the story has space to unfold naturally. Rather than prescribing a fixed structure, I’ll guide you through what a meaningful coverage window might look like based on your plans and priorities, so the photography supports the day rather than dictates it. It’s less about fitting your wedding into hours, and more about allowing enough time for the real moments to happen and be properly seen.
-
I primarily focus my work within the Western Cape, where I value a slower pace of life and being home with my dogs between celebrations. That said, if your wedding sparks something special and happens to be beyond the Western Cape, I’d absolutely love to hear about it. If it feels like the right fit, I’m always open to exploring and finding a way to make it work.
-
Yes, for a seamless, considered experience, all travel and accommodation costs are thoughtfully included within your custom proposal. I believe the planning process should feel clear and effortless, with no hidden extras or unexpected additions later on. Everything is accounted for in advance, allowing you to remain focused on the experience itself while I arrive fully prepared to document it with care.
-
For elopements and micro-weddings, a second shooter is usually not necessary.
For larger weddings or more complex timelines, I often recommend one. It allows for broader coverage, additional perspectives, and more of those in-between moments, while also providing extra peace of mind. We’ll always decide this together based on your plans and how you want your story to be documented.
-
I work primarily in digital for its flexibility and ability to naturally document a wedding day as it unfolds in real time. Alongside this, I also incorporate film where it feels right. Film brings a slower, more intentional rhythm to the work, with a texture and imperfection that can add a beautiful depth to the final story. I also offer Super 8 motion film as part of my work, which adds a nostalgic, cinematic layer to your wedding story. If you’re curious about this, feel free to get in touch and I can share more details on how it can be included in your coverage.
-
Absolutely. I regularly collaborate with wedding planners and videographers to ensure a seamless experience.
-
Not at all. Most couples feel this way initially. I guide you gently throughout the day so you feel relaxed, natural, and never awkward.
-
Your wedding is delivered as a beautifully curated visual story, not a limited selection. You can typically expect a minimum of 700 images, depending on the scale of your celebration. Each photograph is individually edited and colourgraded with subtle, natural retouching where needed. I do not alter bodies or features; the focus remains on authenticity, emotion, and atmosphere. Your final gallery is delivered in high resolution via Pic-Time, allowing you to view, download, and share your images with ease. Galleries remain accessible for 12 months.
During peak season, delivery takes approximately 8–12 weeks as every wedding is carefully and intentionally edited.
BOOKING
-
The first step is to fill out the enquiry form with as much detail as you can about your day. If I’m available and it feels like we’re a good match, I’ll be in touch to start a conversation and hear more about your plans.
I take on a limited number of weddings each year so I can give each story the time and attention it deserves. Because of this, I’m often booked around 12 months in advance. So if it feels right, it’s best to secure your date as soon as possible.
-
To secure your wedding date, I require a signed booking form along with a 40% booking fee. Once both are received, your date is officially reserved in my calendar. From that point forward, everything is held with care so you are free to be fully present.
