GET IN TOUCH
I’d love to hear a little about your plans and what you're creating together.
I take on a limited number of weddings each year so that each story receives the attention and care it deserves.
Wedding collections begin at R45k. As every celebration is documented as a complete story, I do not offer hourly coverage.
If that feels aligned with what you're planning, I'd love to hear more about your day.
Frequently Asked Questions
ABOUT MARLI & HER APPROACH
-
My approach is rooted in documentary storytelling with an artful, observational eye. I pay attention to people, relationships, place, light, gestures and the small details that reveal something about a wedding as it unfolds. Rather than working from a predetermined shot list, I follow the day as it happens and shape what I find into a considered visual narrative.
-
Yes. I’ve been photographing weddings full-time since 2013. Over the years, I’ve photographed celebrations of all shapes and sizes, and that experience has taught me how to anticipate what matters, read a room, and remain calm and attentive as the day unfolds.
-
I intentionally take on a limited number of weddings each year so that I can give each story my full attention, from the first conversation through to the final edit.
CAPTURING YOUR WEDDING DAY
-
The experience is intentionally calm and unobtrusive. I’ll be present throughout the day, paying attention to what is happening without asking you to perform for the camera. I’ll guide you when it is helpful, step in when something needs attention, and otherwise give you the space to be fully present with the people around you.
-
I don't rely on a checklist to know when something matters. Years of photographing weddings have taught me to anticipate the rhythm of a day, read the room and recognise when something is unfolding that deserves my attention. I also take the shape of your wedding seriously from the beginning, so I understand what matters to you before the day arrives. The result is a complete story without requiring the day itself to be organised around the camera.
-
I don’t think your wedding should be reduced to a number of hours. I photograph the day as a complete story, from the anticipation and preparations through to the people, celebrations and quieter moments that happen around them. Rather than offering hourly coverage or build-your-own packages, we look at your plans as a whole and determine what is needed to tell the story properly.
-
For elopements and smaller celebrations, a second shooter is usually unnecessary. For larger weddings or more complex timelines, I may recommend one to provide broader coverage and another perspective. We’ll decide together based on the shape of your day and what you want documented.
-
Yes. I’m very comfortable working alongside planners, coordinators and videographers, and value a collaborative approach where everyone can do their work without getting in one another’s way.
-
Yes. 35mm film is part of the way I photograph weddings, alongside digital photography. I use film deliberately and selectively, allowing it to sit naturally within the wider documentary story of the day
-
Not at all. Most couples aren’t used to being photographed, and my approach is designed to let you remain connected to each other rather than perform for the camera. I’ll guide you when it helps, but the aim is always to make the photographs feel like you rather than a version of you created for the camera.
-
I’m based in Cape Town and photograph weddings throughout the Western Cape, including the Cape Winelands and Tulbagh Valley. I’m also available for destination weddings when the setting and story feel like the right fit.
-
Yes. Travel and accommodation are included in your custom proposal.
AFTER THE WEDDING
-
After the wedding, I return to the photographs with the same attention I bring to photographing the day. I look for the images that carry something; a gesture, expression, atmosphere or connection, and consider how they belong together. The final gallery is carefully edited and sequenced as a complete visual story rather than simply a collection of every photograph taken. Your images are delivered in a private online gallery, with most full wedding galleries containing approximately 700–900 photographs.
BOOKING
-
The first step is to fill out the enquiry form with some details about your day. If I’m available and it feels like we’re a good fit, I’ll be in touch to start a conversation and hear more about your plans. As I take on a limited number of weddings each year, I recommend enquiring once your date is confirmed.
-
To secure your wedding date, I require a signed booking form and a 50% booking fee. Once both are received, your date is exclusively reserved in my calendar.
